Evaluating Our Journey: NorReg Evaluation Matrix
Regenerative tourism is about fostering the flourishing of communities and nature, moving beyond a focus on purely economic benefits. It emphasizes wellbeing, balance, and the positive impacts tourism can have.
This calls for new approaches in evaluating what we consider success factors in tourism.
At NorReg, we have developed an evaluation matrix that gathers methods, questions, and approaches to help assess progress towards regenerative tourism.
Join us for an introduction to the matrix and a discussion on the path forward.

Citizen Science for visitors: Monitoring Seals in Snæfellsnes Regional park
Snæfellsnes Regional Park, our NorReg partner in Iceland, has been involved in an exciting Citizen Science project for visitors since 2023. A citizen science pilot project was created through NorReg in partnership between the Snæfellsnes Regional Park and Youth for Arctic Nature project, the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, the Icelandic Seal Center, Hotel Snæfellsnes, and the Ytri-Tunga landowners. The aim was to:
Contribute to scientific research on seals and biodiversity in the future
Help youth and others who want to learn more about wildlife monitoring through environmental education and training
Connect with local schools and local stakeholders in Snæfellsnes to establish long-term monitoring projects
In this first NorReg partner presentation, Ragnhildur Sigurðardóttir, Managing Director of Snæfellsnes Regional Park, Dr. Jessica Aquino, Associate Professor at Hólar University and Coordinator of the NorReg Academic Group, and Cécile Chauvat, Naturalist with Northwest Iceland Nature Research Centre and Coordinator with Youth for Arctic Nature, will introduce this project and their findings.

Within NorReg, we believe in engaging visitors for the good of the destination. We believe that it is important to increase knowledge about the natural and societal resources we utilise for the purpose of providing experiences for our visitors. Citizen science projects provide opportunities for our visitors to participate in knowledge gathering for the good of the destination.
In this Masterclass, Ólöf Ýrr Atladóttir, project leader for NorReg will introduce the concept of Citizen Science for visitors. The Masterclass is free of charge and open for all NorReg members.
